Dear New York City Dance Community:
As the leading advocate for dance in NYC, Dance/NYC is working with our partners to support our arts agencies at this challenging time.
New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA)
Last week, the State passed a FY 2012 budget cutting NYSCA by 10%, further limiting the agency's vital support for our discipline.
New York City Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA)
The preliminary City budget for FY 2012 proposes more than a 30% cut to DCA Cultural Affairs. Dance/NYC has submitted testimony at City Hall asking for a full restoration of DCA funds, for an investment in the City's recovery and its future. See Dance/NYC testimony here: http://www.dancenyc.org/resources/knowledge-base/advocacy-and-research/id=89
National Endowment for the Arts (NEA)
Yesterday, Dance/NYC joined Dance/USA at Arts Advocacy Day in Washington, D.C., in support of federal funding. For federal advocacy updates, join the Performing Arts Alliance.
Join the Alliance of Resident Theatres/New York as a guest of Dance/NYC tomorrow, April 7, from 10:30-12:30 pm to discuss what we as a community can be doing locally at this challenging time.
